CannaBusiness Conference & Expo in Las Vegas

If you missed us at the CannaBusiness Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, here are a few highlights. Over 3000 attendees and GGS was booked solidly from start to finish. We discussed greenhouses, warehouses, irrigation, lighting, chillers vs HVAC systems, environmental controls and the value of an integrated system when looking to maximize yields. And of course everyone wanted to see our famous rolling benches.  Duane was on hand to walk licensees through the build out process and share his experience as project manager for several existing operations.

Cannabis Greenhouse vs Marijuana Warehouse Growing

Outside of how location plays a role in the security of a cannabis facility, greenhouses are also not typically designed to be high security buildings. Glass, polycarbonate, and poly walls can be penetrated much easier than a concrete block warehouse wall.  All cannabis growing sites need top of the line security cameras, vaults, alarm systems, etc.  Greenhouses need to add perimeter fencing and while this helps keeping thieves out, it also identifies the contents of the greenhouse.

Cannabis Consulting: What Marijuana Growers Need To Know

In designing an efficient facility to grow medical marijuana, it is important that a well thought out plan is prepared and agreed to. Without this the cost of the project will escalate far above the budget. This plan needs to take into consideration all the requirements outlined in the regulations prepared by the governing body and the regulations of the municipality where the facility will be constructed.

Marijuana bunkers called waste of Canada's best farmland

The province's decision to allow heavily fortified medical marijuana production factories to be built on top of good agricultural farmland isn't sitting well with municipal politicians.

Several Lower Mainland cities wanted the new commercial pot producers that are being licensed by the federal government to be relegated to industrial land, arguing the high-security buildings would be a better fit there.

Uruguay Marijuana Applicants Seek Advice in Canada

More than 100 businesses are hoping to compete for the right to grow marijuana in Uruguay’s newly legalized pot market. Drug secretary Julio Calzada told The Associated Press in May that the government can satisfy demand in the legal pot market by licensing up to six growers to cultivate marijuana on plots no larger than 5 acres (2 hectares). 1

Supreme court date set for weed growers

CMAJ has posted a very interesting article regarding a federal court challenge by four BC residents regarding new rules for where patients can obtain their marijuana:

The British Columbia federal court challenge of the new national laws preventing medicinal marijuana users from growing their own weed will be heard at the Supreme Court of Canada in February 2015.

It’s time to start using the M-word

In many ways, Marion Albaum of Toronto, 38, is your typical Canadian mom. She cheers at her son’s minor league hockey games and creates brightly coloured cakes for her daughter’s sleepover parties. Photos of anniversary dinners and birthdays plaster her Facebook page. Not pictured are the nights she spends in hospital with a feeding tube and hovering team of nurses and doctors nearby.
